School Improvement Plan

A critical component of the school improvement planning process is writing a school improvement plan (SIP). The SIP can support educators with turning the school's vision into reality, increase school accountability and efficiency1, and improve student and teacher outcomes

Stages for monitoring include the following:

1. Creating checkpoints.
2. Ensuring fidelity of implementation.
3. Creating new tasks.
4. Adjusting goals.
5. Identifying points of progress.
6. Evaluating the plan.
7. Creating a report.

Based on our experiences, here are five key elements of an effective school improvement plan.

• Start with a vision. What should your vision for improvement look like? 
• Conduct a needs assessment. 
• Identify goals and objectives. 
• Outline specific action steps.
• Involve all stakeholders in the process.
